Irvine Memorial Day Ceremony to Honor The Fallen
The City of Irvine is hosting its annual Memorial Day Celebration at Colonel Bill Barber Park Formal Garden this Monday, May 25, at 10 a.m. Guests may listen to remarks from the commanding officer of Irvine’s adopted 2/11 Marine Battalion, observe the 2/11 Marine Color Guard, and write messages of support to the battalion to be posted on a memorial board.
Before attending the ceremony, you can also participate in the quiet and solemn Northwood Memorial Candle Lighting Ceremony on Sunday, May 24, at 4 p.m. at Northwood Community Park. This vigil honors all, including those that perished in Iraq, Afghanistan, and more recent tours abroad.
This year is special. Our Nation celebrates the 250th anniversary (semiquincentennial) of the Declaration of Independence. Memorial Day honors American service members who died during military service. Since World War I, over 600,000 servicemen have perished while performing their military duties.
