I am a real veteran just like the people on this post and was a no voter. My main concern is that when I cast my yes/no vote we will get the cemetery we deserve. 5 points is a huge developer and no doubt will make a lot of money by developing The Great Park. You may ask “Why would 5 Points spend millions on a campaign issue to have a cemetery built.” Well, ask yourself these questions. Why would a greedy developer donate property worth millions to Hoag Hospital to build a childrens cancer center. Why would a greedy developer do a land swap of 125 acres of pristine property referred to as the Strawberry Fields for an area that will cost him $70 million to clean up. He could develop either site. He also promised $10 Million towards the development of the cemetery. In addition he gave the City of Irvine $2.2 million to replace the money squandered on the Great Park during Larry Agrans term as Mayor. All we got out of that is an Orange balloon. Further more the other site known as ARDAC was never approved or funded. To build in that area we would have to start the process all over. This would surely be blocked local residents, schools and the general public. The taxpayers would be responsible to decontaminate the area at a cost of $70 million. The fact that sold me was that the VA would never allow a cemetery to be built with a major roadway running thru the center of the area, Well guess what. Cadence Avenue runs right thru the area, telling me that The City of Irvine never intended to build a Veterans Cemetery in that area. The noise issue is overstated. Arlington Cemetery is built along side a major highway with high rises surrounding it. It still offer a
serene, beautiful and spiritual place to pray. Our cemetery in Riverside is built next to the fwy and I have never heard any suggestion of excessive traffic noise. It has been suggested that the Yes vote lies. may I point out that the courts ruled against the NO vote during petition sign ups a false and misleading. The volunteers posed as veteran and were paid $3.00 a signature. The no vote was also ordered to stop using certain terminology to mislead voters. The real lies come from The Irvine Community News which if you look in the back of the newspaper is owned by Larry Agran and he gets away with lies using the “Freedom of Speech’ which allows him to do so. And yes, I found the signs stating “Real Veterans Vote Yes’ to be appalling and unacceptable. I also know that the message is misquoted and really trying to point out the use of people claiming to be veterans and not. They should have pulled the signs immediately. Development is going to happen. This was planned long before Measure B came around. I drove thru the park the other day to see Cadence Ave .I could not believe how much is going on. 5 points has done a magnificent job and stands to make a lot of money just as would any other developer, however I don’t think any other developer would be as generous as 5 Points nor would they have the community interest that 5 Points has shown. I know the election is just hours away, but I think a NO vote will mean no cemetery. All I ask is for you think a second time. May God Bless usall
