Election 2020: Candidates Money Raised from July 1 – Sept 19 (Updated)

All candidates running for elected office must provide campaign finance data on who is contributing money, who has received it, and what has been spent.
On Thursday, September 24, 2020, the Irvine City Council Candidates reported on expenses and contributions for the reporting period from July 1, 2020 – September 19, 2020. These reports are available online here using the Campaign Statement Public Portal. The public can search the City’s campaign finance database to look up campaign contributions, expenditures, and to review prior campaign financial statements by election. All filings are public documents.
Two forms you will find helpful are Forms 460 and 470:
- Form 460 – Filed by candidates who have raised/spent $2,000 or more. The report lists the contributors for a specific filing period.
- Form 470 – Filed by candidates who do not intend to raise or spend $2,000 or more. This form does not require itemization of contributions or expenses.
Below is an at-a- glance summary by candidate showing:
- How much was raised during this reporting period
- Cash on hand balance
- Loan contributions year to date
The City of Irvine imposes a campaign contribution limit of $530 per person/entity.
DARK MONEY
This candidate filing does not include any “dark money” funds that may have been spent for and against the local election candidates. Dark money is money spent to influence the outcome of an election from undisclosed donors. The origin of this money is purposely very difficult to track because a huge source of dark money is from politically active nonprofit organizations and anonymous corporate entities. For maximum transparency to Irvine voters, Watchdog hopes to provide a “follow the money chart” when the information is available.
The candidates will file the next Pre-Election Report on October 22, 2020 for the reporting period of (9/20/20 – 10/17/20).
